Tatoga Blacksmiths

Near the Lake Eyasi area is a tribe called the Tatoga. They are black- smiths, and provide other tribes in the area with jewelry, knives, and arrow- heads. To do this, they use traditional hand bellows and charcoal to melt slugs and padlocks as their metal source. The other tribes view the metallurgic tribe in a different way because they consider blacksmithing to be almost like witchcraft. We got to watch both the blacksmiths at work and also visit a house where one of the women was grinding maize for a meal that evening.
